A Fairchild 24-C8E. It was first produced in 1932 and about 1,000 were used in military service under the designation UC-61.

LOCKHEED ORION 9



The six-passenger Lockheed Orion 9 first flew in 1931 and it first entered service with Bowen Air Lines, in May 1931. Several versions of the Orion were produced and this Orion 9D, with registration number NC12285, is one of thirteen Orion 9Ds that were built and it is shown, here, in American Airlines air mail service. Thirty-five Orion 9s were built and one Lockheed Altair DL-2A was converted to an Orion. During the Spanish Civiil War, the Spanish Republican Air Force was able to obtain about thirteen of them.
