AMUSEMENT PARKS

The Midway at White City amusement park in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 16, 1908. The park, which was actually located in Shrewsbury, across from Worcester, and along Lake Quinsigsmond, opened on June 18, 1905 and closed in 1960. Some of the amusements shown in the photo are "Bonita Burned Alive", "The Largest Woman in the World", and the photo studio. The large statue in the photo is "Major Dodo", a landmark of the park, and part of the water slide can be seen on the left side of the photo. A shopping mall now occupies the site of the park.
