ANCIENT RAILROADING

GM "TRAIN OF TOMORROW"

The General Motors 1947 "Train of Tomorrow", which toured America until 1950, when it was bought by Union Pacific, for its Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington route. Painted a blue-green with silver trim and with a red star on its E-7 diesel locomotive, which had road number 765, this train had four 85-foot Pullman Astra Dome passenger cars, including a dining and and a sleeping car. It is shown on tour, in these photos.

A side view of the locomotive, showing the red star.

The Pullman Astra Dome passenger cars, with the Star Dust, a chair car, at the front. The other cars were the Sky View, which was a diner car, the Dream Cloud, which was a sleeper car, and the Moon Glow, which was an observation car. All the cars, except the Moon Glow, which is currently awaiting restoration for the Ogden Union Station Foundation museum, were scrapped from 1964 to 1965.
